Protecting Pig Health from Mycotoxins with Plasma

Mycotoxins are naturally occurring metabolites produced by fungi commonly found in cereal grains used in pig feed. These toxins — including aflatoxins (AF), fumonisins (FUM) and deoxynivalenol (DON) — can severely reduce growth performance, impair immune function, and damage the gastrointestinal, hepatic, pulmonary, and cardiovascular systems in pigs.

Spray dried plasma (SPD) is a functional protein ingredient that supports piglet health by enhancing post-weaning feed intake, growth, feed efficiency and survival. SDP contains bioactive components that modulate the immune response, helping animals better cope with stress.

Several studies have shown that SDP mitigates the harmful effects of dietary mycotoxins by:

  • Improving immune system efficiency

  • Reducing oxidative damage caused by mycotoxins

  • Enhancing body weight gain

  • Lowering post-weaning diarrhea incidence
