A study published in Animal Bioscience evaluated the impact of including 6% spray dried plasma (SDP) in weaned pig diets formulated with ingredients commonly used around the world. Researchers found that SDP improved the digestibility of crude protein and amino acids from other ingredients in diets containing higher levels of wheat and barley.
Why does this matter?
Improved nutrient digestibility means pigs can make better use of the nutrients already present in the diet. The researchers concluded that SDP may help overcome some of the digestive challenges associated with ingredients that have lower amino acid digestibility, particularly in wheat- and barley-based formulations.
These findings add to the growing body of research demonstrating that spray dried plasma supports gut health, nutrient utilization, and post-weaning performance.
Congratulations to the research team, including APC’s Dr. Joy Campbell and collaborators at the University of Illinois, for advancing our understanding of how spray dried plasma contributes to nursery pig nutrition.
